If you are not familiar with the Deaf community and its customs, it can be a little bit confusing. Obviously, Deaf people have their own language…for those in America, that would be American Sign Language (ASL) which is not universal. The language varies from place to place and drastically between countries. The language is just a small piece of the cultural puzzle. There are so many things that are different in the hearing world compared to the Deaf world. I have found a good website that gives an overview of the Deaf culture. Of course, it’s not going to cover everything, but it will give you a basic knowledge of the things that make the Deaf culture unique.
